Frequently Asked Questions
  • How do I choose the right color of Balayage extensions?

    What is Balayage?

Balayage means to "paint" or "sweep"— it's a dying process that results in natural-looking highlights. There is no clear fade line between the darker and lighter colors like with our Ombre shades. As well, darker pieces are left at the bottom to give the hair that extra depth and dimension.

Do I need to have Balayage or highlights in my hair?

No, your hair can be a solid shade! Balayage extensions are a damage-free way to add sun-kissed dimension to your hair.

How do I match my hair to the right shade?

In order for your Luxy Hair Balayage extensions to blend, we recommend ensuring that your hair matches the root color of the extensions. To determine the right match for you, please read below.

      FAQs

I have Ombre/highlights in my hair. Can I still wear Balayage?

Yes. Balayage extensions will blend even if you have Ombre or highlights in your hair. If you have Ombre, the Balayage extensions will add more color and dimension higher up. If you have highlights, the Balayage extensions will add more color towards the ends.

What if I have short hair?

For best results, your hair should be about 6-7 inches in length for the extensions to blend naturally (that's about shoulder length) & a solid color. To learn about which set to pick, click here.

How far down the weft do the Balayage highlights start?

The Balayage highlights start 6 inches from the base of the weft.

      What if I want a shorter/longer length?

At this time, the Balayage shades come in 20 inches, however, we do offer a longer length in our 24" Seamless Blonde Balayage set. Since Luxies are made of 100% remy human hair, however, they can be cut or trimmed to any desired length by an experienced hair stylist if you are interested in a shorter length.

We're always open to feedback! Should you be interested in a specific length that we don't currently carry, kindly send us an email at info@luxyhair.com and we'll be happy to share your suggestion with our Product Development team for future consideration.

    • Are the Halo extensions one size fits all or are there different sizes?

The Halo weft comes with nylon wires pre-included in 7 different sizes as follows, so you can fit the weft perfectly to your head and ensure it is secured.

      • XXS: 15.5 cm
      • XS: 17.5 cm
      • S: 18.5 cm
      • M: 19.5 cm
      • L: 20.5 cm
      • XL: 21.5 cm
      • XXL: 22.5 cm

      Halo hair extensions

Before applying Halo, be sure to choose the correct wire size, otherwise, your extensions may sit too low or too high on your head. As a rule of thumb, the Halo should sit comfortably around the crown of your head. It should gently touch your head, and should not move when you shake your head. Click here to see a video of how to choose your wire size.

You may also be interested in:

    • Is it possible for the Halo extensions to slip/fall out?

No, the Halo extensions will not slip or fall out of your hair if applied correctly. This is why we added the extra clips on either side of the weft for added security if needed. After you apply the Halo, the weight of your hair laying on top will also help keep it in place. You can whip your hair back and forth without any worries of the extensions falling out!

    • I have short hair. Can I wear Halo extensions?

Halo extensions are best for those who have below shoulder length hair and have a thin or medium hair type. We do not recommend the Halo extensions for those with short hair as you will need more wefts and hair to create a seamless blend.

You may also be interested in:

      • How does the Halo wire not show?

Since the Halo wire is thin and clear it's virtually undetectable in your hair! You'll also add a layer of hair over the wire to conceal it.

      • How are Halo extensions different from clip-in hair extensions?

Halo extensions are a lower maintenance alternative to our clip-in extensions. Instead of having to clip in multiple wefts to ensure a seamless blend, all you need to do is apply the Halo and two 2-clip wefts to the side of your temples in a matter of seconds. Halo extensions are also great for those with thin and fragile hair and for those who have a sensitive scalp and find it hard wearing clip-in extensions. They are best for those who have below shoulder length hair and have a thin or medium hair type.

While both clip-in and halo extensions deliver the same beautiful results, the main difference lies in the difference in application techniques. Click here for a comparison chart and to learn about which extensions are best for you.

        • Will Halo extensions blend with my hair?

          • How do I apply Halo extensions?

            STEP 1: BRUSH YOUR HAIR

Brush your hair thoroughly to get rid of tangles. Then, brush out your halo and each 2-clip weft gently using our Loop Hair Extensions Brush, or a wide-toothed comb or paddle brush.

            Halo hair extensions

STEP 2: SECTION OFF YOUR HAIR

Section off your hair at the crown, tying it into a bun at the top of your head. Leave out the front sections of hair that frame your face to ensure a natural blend.

            Halo hair extensions

            STEP 3: APPLY YOUR HALO

Choosing the wire length that best fits the size of your head, position your halo over your bun where you parted your hair. Like a headband, it should sit comfortably and securely above your ears.

            Halo hair extensions

STEP 4: SECURE A 2-CLIP WEFT AT EACH TEMPLE

For some extra oomph around the sides of your face, secure a 2-clip weft at the temple of your head about two inches above your ear, fastening the clip closest to your hairline first. Do the same on the other side with the remaining 2-clip weft.

            Halo hair extensions

STEP 5: BLEND FOR HEAVENLY RESULTS

Take down your bun and brush through your hair to smooth everything out ensuring your real hair is covering all the wefts and the halo. If you’re not using our Loop Hair Extensions Brush, be extra cautious when brushing over the wire of the halo to avoid snagging.

            • Can I do ponytails/updos using Halo Extensions?

Halo extensions are suitable for half up half down hairstyles, and low ponytails!

            • Can I curl and straighten my hair extensions?

Just like your own hair, Luxy Hair extensions can be straightened, blow-dried, styled and curled. In order to preserve and extend the lifespan of your Luxy Hair extensions, however, we suggest to always use a heat protectant spray prior to styling your set.

Additionally, we recommend to only use a low heat setting of 120C/250F, as anything higher runs the risk of damaging the hair. The reason why we recommend opting for a lower heat setting is because it will prolong the lifespan of your set. While our own hair may be able to handle a high heat setting, our hair is also constantly getting revitalized from the scalp, whereas hair extensions don't get that sort of constant nutrition.

Check out the following blog post for more info on how to care for hair extensions.

            • How do I care for my extensions?

Creating a good routine with your Luxy Hair extensions from the start will help prolong their lifespan. Since they are made from 100% Remy human hair, they can be styled and washed just like your regular hair, however, the more you wash and heat style your extensions, the shorter their lifespan will be, so try to keep washing and product use to a minimum.

Keep in mind that unlike your own hair, which receives natural hydration from the oils on your scalp, hair extensions don’t have a natural hydration source. Therefore, keeping them hydrated is key to keeping them shiny and in good condition. To ensure your set lives a long and happy life, check out the below articles or this blog post:
