What is remy human hair?

Remy human hair is the highest grade of real, human hair that is a preferred choice for hair extensions, hairpieces and wigs because it achieves the most natural look.

Remy hair is considered to be the finest quality of human hair because the outermost layer of the hair, known as cuticles, are kept intact and not stripped, like in most other non-remy hair extensions. Preserving the hairs’ cuticles and aligning them in a unidirectional fashion creates extensions that are completely natural in appearance. This process also ensures that the hair remains super soft, shiny, silky and relatively tangle-free throughout its lifetime.

What are remy hair extensions?

Remy hair extensions like Luxy Hair extensions use only the finest quality of remy human hair. The hair has been carefully sorted after collecting from the hair donor to ensure all the cuticles are of the same length. The hair is then bound at the base with either silk fabric (classic remy hair extensions) or silicone (seamless remy hair extensions), and clips are hand-sewn onto the base to create individual wefts. These wefts are then packaged into full head sets of hair extensions. Remy human hair extensions are by far the best quality of clip in human hair extensions on the market because of the care that is required, the time it takes to sort the hair so meticulously, and the higher quality of hair used.

What is the difference between synthetic and human hair extensions?

Hair extensions made from human hair can be dyed a darker colour, styled with hot tools (curled or straightened), washed frequently, and treated just like you would your own natural hair.

On the other hand, hair extensions made from synthetic hair are sensitive to the sun, are difficult to style and blend with your own hair, and typically don't have the same lifespan as human hair extensions do. Human hair extensions can last up to a year or longer if they are properly cared for.

You can expect to pay anywhere from $60-$85 for synthetic hair extensions, and anywhere from $100-$500 for human hair extensions. Click here to see 6 reasons to wear clip-in hair extensions.

Where do remy hair extensions come from?

The majority of remy human hair is sourced from China or India from a variety of sources such as:

  1. Hair purchased from non-working women who are housewives staying with children/grandchildren. Selling hair is a supplementary source of income for them, which does not require any labor.
  2. Temples, where hair is a form of donation and source of revenue for the monastery/temple for its own expenses and projects.
  3. Hair salons, which sell hair instead of throwing it into the waste stream.
  4. Fallen hair, which is then sanitized, processed, and dyed.

All of our hair is sourced and manufactured in China. We source our hair straight from verified distributors, who depend on their long-standing reputation for ethical sourcing and quality hair. Luxy Hair’s remy human hair is donated, sold, or exchanged fairly and ethically in the Asian market.

Luxy Hair only chooses to work with companies where workers are satisfied and happy to be a part of the team. Luxy facilities employ working age staff (mostly middle age women and men) who get a proper salary, normal working hours, weekends off, and holiday leave.

Transparency is very important to us as a company. Therefore, we encourage you to check out our Factory page where you can take a virtual tour through our factory in China, and see exactly how Luxies are made.

How much are remy clip-in hair extensions?

Human hair extensions can range anywhere from $100 to thousands of dollars, depending on a variety of factors as follows:

1. Grade of remy hair

Although remy hair is considered the highest quality of human hair, there are different grades of remy hair, some of which cost less than others, due to additional processing and a lower lifespan. Hair that is subjected to a more basic production may only last 2-3 months to keep cost low, while hair that has undergone a longer and higher quality control process will last longer. Virgin hair that has undergone no processing and which is raw hair in its natural state will cost the most, yet last the longest.

2. Thickness of set

Hair extensions sets can be sold in thinner sets (less hair on each weft and fewer wefts per set) to super thick (more wefts, and more hair attached to each weft). Naturally, the thinner the set, the lower it will cost, and the thicker the set the more it will cost.

3. Style of hair extensions

Classic remy hair extensions have a fabric stitched weft and are slightly thicker at the base, providing extra volume at the roots. Seamless hair extensions, on the other hand, have a silicone weft, and are thinner at the base. Because of the additional processing and labor that go into manufacturing Seamless hair extensions, you may find that this style costs slightly more than the classic variation.

4. Color of hair extensions

Hair extensions can range in colour from solid shades, to highlights, ombre, balayage, and fashion colors. Depending on the color and style of extensions, you may find that pricing varies, due to the additional manufacturing and dyeing required at the factory level.

How to put in remy hair extensions

With clip in hair extensions, there is no commitment as there is with other types of hair extensions that are taped, bonded, or glued to the hair. You can clip them in and out whenever you like, going from short hair to long hair whenever you feel like it.

Step 1: Brush your hair

Start off by brushing your own hair thoroughly using a soft paddle brush or Luxy Hair Loop Extensions brush to get rid of any tangles.

Step 2: Start with a 3 clip weft

Separate a straight thin section of hair with your finger or a comb at the nape of your neck and clip the rest of your hair away using a hair clip. Take a 3 clip weft and brush it out before clipping it into your hair.

Find the centre of your head and clip in the middle clip as close to the roots as possible. Once the middle clip has been clipped in, clip the left side and then the right, pulling the weft taught. The same process will apply for every weft.

Step 3: Take the smaller 4 clip weft

Separate a straight thin section of hair about an inch above the first clipped weft—this section should be at about the top of your ears. Clip the smaller 4 clip weft (7") using the same technique as before. Make sure there are no bumps in the weft by slightly stretching the weft to the sides when you’re clipping in the middle clips.

Step 4: Take the larger 4 clip weft

Separate a straight thin section of hair at the widest part of your head. Clip in the largest 4 clip weft (8").

Step 5: Take the second 3 clip weft

Separate a straight thin section of hair about two inches below the crown of your head. Clip the second 3 clip weft in. Now, all the large wefts at the back of your head have been clipped in, and only small ones should be left.

Step 6: Take the 2 clip wefts

These wefts will add volume to the sides of your hair, and help with blending around the face. Separate a straight thin section of hair about two inches above your ear on one side. Take a 2 clip weft and secure the clip closest to your hairline first, then secure the second clip closer to the back of your head.

Repeat on the other side.

Step 7: Take the 1 clip wefts

Separate a section of hair right above the 2 clip weft and clip two 1 clip wefts anywhere you feel needs more blending. Repeat the same process on the other side of your head.

Brush your hair and check in the mirror to make sure that all the wefts are hidden, especially in the back, adjust if necessary, and show off your brand new long, voluminous hair!
