Seamless vs. Classic hair extensions: the differences explained.

Our Seamless Collection features the same amazing high-quality as our Classic Collection, but with a thin silicone band, which means that they lay flat against your head. Wondering whether our Seamless Collection is right for you? We're answering some frequently asked questions in this article, so be sure to scroll down to check it out.

Seamless Luxy Hair Extensions:

What is the difference between regular and seamless hair extensions?

Good question! Here is a comparison chart of the two collections:

Seamless Luxy Hair Extensions Wefts - Silicone BaseSeamless extensions are different from our Classic Collection in the way that they are manufactured, although, we find it all comes down to personal preference. Our Seamless Collection are most comparable to our 160 gram Classic set, however, they have more hair attached to each weft making the full set slightly thicker. They are made with a thin silicone-based weft that lays flat against your head.

How to care for Seamless hair extensions?

As is the case with all clip-in extensions, we advise you to care for your Luxies with love. Creating a good routine with your Luxy Hair extensions from the start will help prolong their lifespan. Since they are made from 100% Remy human hair, they can be styled and washed just like your regular hair, however, the more you wash and heat style your extensions, the shorter their lifespan will be, so try to keep washing and product use to a minimum. Keep in mind that unlike your own hair, which receives natural hydration from the oils on your scalp, hair extensions don’t have a natural hydration source. Therefore, keeping them hydrated is key to keeping them shiny and in good condition. Check out this blog post for our top tips on how to care for your extensions so they live a long and happy life.

When washing your extensions, it's important you condition them thoroughly. We recommend using alcohol-free and sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners as sulfates and alcohols strip the hair of its natural oils which, in turn, makes the hair drier and more prone to tangling and matting.

For an added boost of hydration, apply a moisturizing sulfate-free and alcohol-free conditioner both before and after shampooing. Sometimes, you can even skip the shampoo and only co-wash your extensions with conditioner! When washing, make sure to handle the extensions gently and to not rub them vigorously. Always be sure to rinse the extensions in cold water at the end to lock in moisture. After you are finished, carefully squeeze any excess water from the extensions and avoid rubbing your Luxies dry with a towel.

Handle your Seamless Luxies with extra caution since the clips are stitched directly on the silicone base. We advise against pulling or pressing the clips to prevent causing damage to your set.

What temperature can Seamless extensions be styled at? Does heat damage the base of the weft?

We suggest always using a heat protectant spray prior to styling your set and only using a low heat setting of 120C/250F, as anything higher runs the risk of damaging the hair. While our own hair may be able to handle a high heat setting, this is because it is also constantly getting revitalized from the scalp and growth is continuous. On the other hand, hair extensions don't receive that sort of nutrition. Over time, excessive heat and high temperatures may cause wear and tear to your set, and can potentially loosen the silicone bond with the hair. Generally speaking, heat will not damage the base of the weft unless it is very high.

One of the best things about our extensions, however, is that they don’t need to be styled at a high heat temperature in order to achieve beautiful, long-lasting results. Our extensions will curl and straighten with ease using a low heat setting.

Do Seamless extensions shed less than our regular extensions?

Just like your natural hair, extensions will shed. Shedding is a common occurrence with hair extensions, and because they are made of human hair, you can expect some shedding throughout their lifespan. Although the base of our Seamless sets is thinner, they do not shed any more than our Classic Collection. As you brush and style your Luxies, some fall-out may occur so don’t be surprised or worried when this happens. Keep in mind, extensions are more likely to shed when they are dry and brittle.

Always gently brush your extensions before and after each use to reduce shedding and breakage. The Loop Hair Extensions Brush is a hair extension user's dream as it is specifically designed to be used with hair extensions. The brush has unique nylon “looped” bristles which easily glide through the hair and remove any tangles.

Also, take into consideration that the more products you use, the more you will need to wash your extensions, so the best way to reduce shedding is to use a minimal number of products. Your extensions have a beautiful, healthy finish already so you shouldn’t need much product to enjoy them. If you want more hold when curling your extensions, try pinning up the curls and leaving them overnight or even just for an hour to ensure the curls stay in place without the use of hairspray. If you do want to reach for hairspray, consider a lightweight formula which you can still easily brush through. Extra strength hair sprays will clog up your extensions, which means more washing. Check out this blog post for some tips on how to reduce shedding.

    Are Seamless extensions water-resistant?

Yes, Seamless extensions are water-resistant. However, we recommend ensuring your extensions don’t come into contact with water for longer than 20 to 30 minutes, like during washing. This is because, over time, water may seep into the base cavities of the silicone weft band. This can make the drying process difficult since silicone is not as breathable as having a fabric base (as is the case with our Classic Collection).

Similar to our Classic Collection, we recommend you avoid swimming or showering with the extensions clipped in to prevent unnecessary damage and tangling with your own hair.
