Working at a consumer packaged goods company managing professional men's grooming products, Bonnie says she didn’t feel challenged enough and there wasn’t much room for career growth. When she first heard about Luxy Hair through Mimi Ikonn's YouTube channel, she was quickly enamoured with the Luxy Hair company culture, strong growth opportunities and transparency that Mimi described. Ironically, Bonnie was approached by a headhunter to join the team. Wanting to create products that made a difference and empowered women, Bonnie took a leap of faith, and in the words of Sheryl Sandberg 'took a seat on the rocketship!'

I look for opportunities to create meaningful products, and introduce them to the market. There are a lot of great product ideas out there but in order to truly curate our product line-up, each idea needs to be evaluated from not only the business stand point but also the customer’s stand point. I always strive to create products of value and not just to push product.

What does a typical day at the office look like for you?

No two days ever look the same for me and there are always new challenges to solve, but it usually begins with me addressing emails from global vendors before I get into the office. Once I get into the office, the first thing I do is make an Americano and then review my priorities for the day.

When developing a product, there are a lot of different key stakeholders involved and so most of my days consist of a mix of conference calls, meetings, and strategy planning. On other days, projects will include creating business cases to pitch new product launches, market and competitive researching, product sourcing, reviewing samples, and product testing. I work with a lot of different time zones as we have vendor partners across the globe, so most of the time I end my days off with more email correspondences and calls in the evening at home. 

What is the coolest thing you’re working on right now?

We have a lot of new exciting initiatives that are coming up, and when the timing is right, I can’t wait to share! Stay tuned.

I could never decide! I wouldn’t choose to give up either...
