What are Halo® Hair Extensions? All your questions answered.

Everything you need to know about Luxy Hair Halo® Hair Extensions

What are Halo hair extensions?

Luxy Hair Halo® hair extensions are a simple, one-step method to achieve longer, fuller hair. They’re perfect for first-time users and simple enough to apply for everyday wear in just a few minutes. Instead of clipping or sewing in wefts, Halo hair extensions sit gently on top of your head, secured with a thin, invisible wire.

Halo hair extensions are suitable for those with a thin to medium hair type, and hair length longer than shoulder length.

What weight do Halo hair extensions come in?

The weight of the full Halo set is 180g. This includes one Halo weft (140g in weight and 12" in length) and two additional 2-clip wefts (20g each in weight and 4" each in length) to help blend face-framing pieces. Halo is available in a standard 20” length.

Who can wear Halo hair extensions?

Halo hair extensions are best suited for those with hair longer than shoulder length and a thin to medium thickness hair type. For those with a thicker hair type, we recommend opting for our 220g Classic set or a Volume bundle instead of Halo.

Because Halo comes in a standard 180g thickness, it is not ideal for those with thicker or shorter hair types. It will likely appear "stringy" at the bottom if attempted to blend in these hair types.

What are Halo hair extensions made of?

Halo hair extensions are made with the same, high quality 100% Remy human hair as all Luxy Hair extensions. The Halo weft has a stretchy nylon wire attached.

Is the Halo hair extensions wire damaging?

No. Just like clip-in hair extensions, Halo extensions are a non-damaging way to add instant length and volume to your natural hair.

Is Halo one size fits all or are there different sizes?

The Halo weft comes with nylon wires pre-included in 7 different sizes as follows, so you can fit the weft perfectly to your head and ensure it is secured.

  • XXS: 15.5 cm
  • XS: 17.5 cm
  • S: 18.5 cm
  • M: 19.5 cm
  • L: 22.5 cm
  • XL: 23.5 cm
  • XXL: 24.5 cm

How does the Halo stay on without falling off?

There are two clips on the Halo (1 on either side), which you can clip into your hair for added security if needed. After you apply the Halo, the weight of your hair laying on top will also help keep it in place. You can whip your hair back and forth without any worries of the extensions falling out!

How do the extensions blend with only one strip of hair?

Halo hair extensions are suited for those with hair that is already longer than shoulder length and thin to medium thickness.

For this reason, the weft has been specifically created with a combination of longer and shorter hairs to ensure that it blends seamlessly with these hair types. As well, your set will come with two additional 2-clip wefts to help with blending any shorter, face-framing pieces. These additional 2-clip wefts as part of a Halo set are exclusive to Luxy Hair.

Halo hair extensions for short hair

If you have short hair, we do not recommend Halo hair extensions, as they will not blend seamlessly. Instead, we encourage you to opt for our Classic clip-in hair extensions in 220g or a Volume Bundle.

Can you wear Halo hair extensions with a volumizer weft?

Yes. Simply clip the Volumizer Weft on top of the Halo weft first, then apply Halo as normal.

How long does it take to apply the Halo?

Halo hair etensions are lower maintenance than our clip-in sets, as there are only 1-3 wefts to apply, and should only take a few minutes to achieve beautiful length and volume in just 5 simple steps (shown below).

Care Instructions

How long do Halo hair extensions last?

Just like your clip-in hair extensions, Halo extensions will last anywhere from 3-6 months, up to a year or longer, depending on how they are used and cared for. Be sure to brush the extensions with a Loop Extensions Brush to avoid snagging the wire, to wash the extensions are little as possible, and to use hair products appropriate for hair extensions to ensure they last as long as possible.

What hair products can I use on Halo extensions?

Just like clip-in hair extensions, be sure to use only alcohol-free and sulfate-free hair products on your Halo set or hair products specially formulated for hair extensions to avoid the hair drying out.

Can I get the Halo wire wet?

Yes, although we advise to wet your Halo extensions as little as possible to preserve the hair.

Will the Halo wire melt?

Because the Halo weft has a nylon wire, be sure to style the extensions separately at a maximum temperature of 120C/250F before wearing them. Avoid applying heat to the nylon wire, as it may melt.

Do Halo extensions shed more than regular hair extensions?

All Luxy Hair extensions will experience minimal to no shedding throughout their lifetime. Upon unboxing the extensions, you may experience some shedding, however, after a quick brush, shedding should subside. Be sure to brush your hair extensions throughout the day periodically with a Loop Extensions Brush to keep shedding at bay.

Can I dye my Halo extensions?

Yes, Halo can be dyed darker or toned by a professional hair colorist as they are made with 100% Remy human hair. Halo cannot be bleached or lightened, however, as this process is damaging to the hair. Be sure to avoid dyeing the nylon wire as it needs to remain clear and transparent.

Clip-in hair extensions vs. Halo® hair extensions

How are Halo extensions different from clip-in hair extensions?

Halo extensions are a lower maintenance alternative to our clip-in hair extensions. Clip-in hair extensions come in a set of 9-10 wefts of hair, which are each clipped in throughout your head for a natural blend. Halo Extensions, on the other hand, come with one main Halo weft, and two additional 2-clip wefts to help with blending at the front of your face (exclusive to Luxy Hair). This means you can achieve the same, natural, seamless blend in a shorter time with less effort! Halo extensions are also a better alternative for those who have a sensitive scalp and find clip-in hair extensions uncomfortable.

How do I choose between clip-in and Halo extensions?

As a general rule of thumb, if you have thin to medium hair or hair longer than shoulder length, Halo will work for you. If your hair is short, thick, or bluntly cut, we encourage you to opt for one of our 220g Classic style instead.

While both clip-in and halo extensions deliver the same beautiful results, the main difference lies in the difference in application techniques. For example, do you enjoy spending extra time on your hair or are you looking for a quicker solution to longer, fuller hair? Do you enjoy wearing your hair in different styles such as ponytails and updos or do you enjoy wearing your hair down for the most part? At the end of the day, it’s all about personal preference and what works best for you. Check out our comparison chart to determine which extensions are best for you or take our quiz above.

How to choose your Halo wire size

Before applying Halo, be sure to choose the correct wire size, otherwise, your extensions may sit too low or too high on your head. As a rule of thumb, the Halo should sit comfortable around the crown of your head. It should gently touch your head, and should not move when you shake your head.

How to wear Halo Hair Extensions

STEP 1: BRUSH YOUR HAIR

Brush your hair thoroughly to get rid of tangles. Then, brush out your halo and each 2-clip weft gently using our Loop Hair Extensions Brush, or a wide-toothed comb or paddle brush.

STEP 2: SECTION OFF YOUR HAIR

Section off your hair at the crown, tying it into a bun at the top of your head. Leave out the front sections of hair that frame your face to ensure a natural blend.

STEP 3: APPLY YOUR HALO

Choosing the wire length that best fits the size of your head, position your halo over your bun where you parted your hair. Like a headband, it should sit comfortably and securely above your ears.

STEP 4: SECURE A 2-CLIP WEFT AT EACH TEMPLE

For some extra oomph around the sides of your face, secure a 2-clip weft at the temple of your head about two inches above your ear, fastening the clip closest to your hairline first. Do the same on the other side with the remaining 2-clip weft.

STEP 5: BLEND FOR HEAVENLY RESULTS

Take down your bun and brush through your hair to smooth everything out ensuring your real hair is covering all the wefts and the halo. If you’re not using our Loop Hair Extensions Brush, be extra cautious when brushing over the wire of the halo to avoid snagging.
