Well, here we are again wondering how yet another month flew by - it's already the end of September and we officially said goodbye to summer and hello to fall (unless, once again, you're in Australia and New Zealand, of course). Some of us are a bit sad that the sunny hot days are over, but others are absolutely thrilled about sweater weather, cozy candle lit movie nights, and those pumpkin spice lattes.
In this post, we'll share some of our summer-to-fall transition essentials, favorite quote, favorite book, favorite hairstyle, and finally a summer-to-fall music playlist. Let's dig in!
Summer to Fall Transition Wardrobe Essentials
Layers
Probably the most exciting part about fall fashion! Ensure that in your wardrobe you have enough pieces you can layer on top of your summer tees and tank tops - our suggestion: stick to neutral colours so that you can mix and match! Our favorites include knit sweaters (cropped sweaters work well for early fall to pair with high waisted jeans), cardigans, faux fur vests (cozy!) and vests.
Fall Footwear
Goodbye sandals and flip flops, hello ankle booties, rain boots, and combat boots! Ankle booties with a low heel are comfortable and are perfect to wear with ankle length jeans (or rolled up to the ankle) and make for a killer outfit paired with the layer pieces mentioned above. For a more casual look, combat boots are perfect - and you can wear them with jeans or leggings. Rain boots - in case there is rain, of course! Nothing like staying warm and dry during the rain.
Switch Up Your Bag
From light and bright toned purses and bags we loved during the summer, it's time to switch to your fall/winter bag. Our faves include blacks, greys, fall color-inspired yellows and browns. Having a bag in these colors will ensure it matches anything in your wardrobe. Pro tip: get a matching scarf, belt, or shoes - and you'll ALWAYS look stylish.
Get Cozy With Scarves & Shawls
Is there anything better than being fashionable AND cozy at the same time? Well, scarves and shawls will allow you to do just that. It's still not completely cold that you always need a thicker jacket, so scarves and shawls are the perfect alternatives. If you're not into shawls - that's fine, why not get a blanket scarf (we like Aritzia's). Alternatively, infinity scarves - thin or knitted - can often complete the look and keep you warm as well.
Favorite Quote Of The Month
Promise Yourself:
To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel
that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make your optimism come true.
To think only the best, to work only for the best,
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past
and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud words but great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on your side
so long as you are true to the best that is in you.― Christian D. Larson
Favorite Book Of The Month
At the Luxy Hair office, we have monthly book clubs (we call them Lunch & Learns) - we pick a book, read it, and then share our learnings and takeaways over a delicious lunch. One of those books was "The Mastery of Love" by Don Miguel Ruiz and we're so happy to be sharing it with you.
This book is an absolute gem. It's all about relationships. But don't assume that it's just about relationships with other people - it's also about the relationship you have with yourself. This book is so good it needs to be read once every year, by everyone, and also makes for an ideal gift for a friend or relative. Get that holiday shopping started early because this is a great gift.
