How To Get Perfect Curls

This week I share with you the technique I use to achieve these perfect tight curls. Maybe not a hairstyle for every day as they do take some time to create and the final result is quite dramatic, but they are definitely perfect for a more special occasion. I am wearing the Luxy Hair Extensions set in Ombre Chestnut.

Well hello there. Hi my beautiful friends it's Mimi here today.

As you can see today I'm going to be showing you how to create this beautiful soft natural looking curls. I absolutely love this. This is very different. I wanted to spice things up. I usually just wear my hair in really big soft waves but today I wanted to do something different, and exciting, and really curl my hair into these nice small curls. I absolutely love this look. If you want to know how to create this thank you for watching.

All right so first thing's first I'm going to start off by brushing my hair. I'm not sure if you can see all of my hair, you probably can't because it can't possibly fit in the frame. Right now I'm going to lift myself so you can see it. I'm wearing the 24 ... Should I keep going? I think so. I'm wearing the 24" Luxy Hair extensions because for this look I specifically got this longer set. I'm wearing the umber chestnut set to do really tight curls because as you know if you do tight curls, and as you curl the hair you're losing a lot of the length, so with this set even though I'm going to lose a lot of the length it's still going to look pretty long.

All right, so I've split the hair in two parts, left and right. I'm just going to quickly give it a brush. Once I brush the hair I'm going to take my hair clip and I'm going to start sectioning the hair. I'm going to work here with really small sections. I do have another video on how I do tight curls but this is going to be very different. First of all I'm going to work with even smaller sections. When I say small I mean ... I'll show you right now. Like quite a small section. This is barely an inch of hair. You want to grab something really small because that's going to give you completely different curls.

Then what I'm going to be working with today is I'm going to be working with the smallest barrel I have. This is also one inch barrel.

Before I do that, before I curl the hair and show you what I'm going to be doing, of course make sure to protect your hair. I don't always do that but don't be like me. Make sure to get something that will protect your hair. For the longest time I didn't use heat protectants because I couldn't find one that was natural and one that didn't test on animals. Then I was super happy when I found this product at Whole Foods. This is by Giovanni and it's extreme heat protection. I use this when I blow dry my hair and also when I curl my hair. Not always but when I do remember I do use it.

What I'm going to do here is I'm going to spray this on my palm first, just like that, so that I have enough product. Then I'm going to run this over the hair. Because if I just spray it onto the hair it's not going to go on all of the hair and it might not protect all of it. That's why I prefer to just spray it in my palm and then evenly distribute it on the section that I'm going to be working with.

Now that I have the heat protectant on my hair what I'm going to do is I'm going to grab my barrel. The first strand I'm going to lightly ... You see I don't tightly wrap the hair around. I'm going to lightly wrap the hair around the barrel. Then I'm just going to hold it for about 10 to 15 seconds. This one, the first one is going to be away from my face. Then I'm going to hold it, hold it, hold it. Then what I'm going to do, when I release it I'm not just going to let it drop like I normally would. I actually just pull my hair down, so you see what I'm doing? That creates a different curl. Usually I would just unwrap the hair from the barrel or I would let it drop in my hand, but here I actually just pulled on it.

I'm going to show you one more section so you know what I mean. I'm going to grab another section. Also a small section. I'm going to do the same thing. Put some heat protectant.

Now what I'm going to do with this section, so instead of curling it away from my face I'm going to curl it towards my face. That's what I'm going to be doing as I'm curling all of my hair, I'm going to alternate from away, towards, away, and towards. This one is going to go towards my face. I'm going to do the same thing. Going to lightly wrap it around or loosely wrap it around the barrel, just like that. Then I'm going to hold it there for 10 to 15 seconds. It's steaming hot. Be careful.

Then when I'm done I'm just going to pull it down, just like that. Now I'm going to continue doing the exact same steps on all of my hair.

Another thing I want to mention, as I curl my hair I intentionally pick different size sections. Like I said in the beginning I want to go for really small sections but sometimes I pick even smaller sections. I do this on purpose because I want to achieve more of a natural curl. If somebody has naturally curly hair they wouldn't have every single curl look exactly the same because that's just not the reality. Right now I'll show you what I mean. I'm going to pick a really tiny section, like this next one. I'm going to first, of course, spray it with heat protectant. Then start curling it away from my face. Then in about 10, 15 seconds I'm going to pull it down and I'm going to be left with beautiful small curls. So again alternating from thicker to smaller sections as I go along.

All right, so I wanted to show you what I have so far. That's a lot of curls right here. I'm not going to do anything to it for now. The only thing I'm going to do for now is just quickly spray the hair with hairspray. I'm just going to do more styling when I finish all of the hair. For now just a bit of the hairspray. I'm just going to cool it down.

Another thing I want to mention is that as you can see, probably, I didn't curly my bangs. I'm going to let them be straight because as you can see here I only start curling from the ear level or even from the chin level, so lower than the ear. I like it like that. I prefer that it's straight and loose here, and then it turns into really nice soft curls.

Then I'm just going to curl this side and show you what I got. All right? See you soon.

All right, so I finally finished curling all of my hair. I would say this probably took me about an hour to do all of my hair, but keep in mind I do have a lot of hair. If you have long hair or if you're wearing hair extensions like me make sure that you have that time to curl the hair if you're going out, or if you're going from work. I'm not sure if you're going to do this for work but this is more of like going out kind of hair. But just make sure you set that time aside to do the hair.

All right. What I'm going to do next is quickly spray some hairspray in my hair. Next thing I'm going to do is I'm actually going to finger brush my hair. I'm not going to use a regular brush because that would create frizz. But when I go with my fingers I'm just softly separating all the waves. This just opens them up making them look a bit more natural. Also creates more volume in the hair and just creates a nicer softer look overall.

As you can see as I'm doing this the hair is already starting to look fuller. Oh my God that's a lot of hair. That's crazy. I have never experienced so much hair in my whole life. Like seriously. I feel like a mermaid.

Next thing I'm going to do I'm going to continue finger brushing, but what I'm going to do is add a bit of a product. This is John Masters Organics Hair Wax. I'm just going to go with my finger, just grab just a tiny bit of a product. This is nice because it just creates more texture. It creates more definition in the curls. I'm just going to rub it against my hands, my palms, and I'm going to continue running my fingers through the hair. Also scrunching them. So I'm just running through the hair and scrunching at the same time. I'm going to do the same thing to the other side. I'm just going in here to grab a bit of a product. Just spreading it all over my palms and then just going to run my fingers through my curls.

Still can't get over this crazy curls. If somebody has these curls as their natural hair you're one lucky girl because this took me an hour.

All right so I'm going to scrunch it up. Scrunch it up more. One more thing I'm going to do for a bit of more volume is ... I'm like out of breath because I'm so excited. I'm going to grab the hair and as I grab it I'm going to spray it. What this does is just creates pockets of volume. Just lift it, spray it. Lift and spray. Lift and spray. As you can see this already, without any teasing or doing anything to my hair, or the extensions, created a whole lot of more volume.

I'm going to try to show you but excuse me if I can't fit all of my 24 inches of hair into this little screen.

All right my beauties that's it for today. I'm still trying to get over these crazy curls. Let me know how you enjoyed this hair tutorial down below, leave me a comment. I love reading your comments.
