If you haven't heard yet, the long sleek straight hairstyle is taking over 2017. If you read our earlier blog post on our Hottest Hair Trends prediction, then you're on the same page with us. If you haven't, then hang tight as we'll show you the go-to hairstyle that we're seeing on all the big celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, and Jourdan Dunn - to name a few.
Our dear friend and celebrity hairstylist, Roger Medina, brings to life this long, sleek, and straight hairstyle using 220g Off Black Luxy Hair extensions. Watch the amazing transformation below, or keep scrolling down for a simple 3 step guide on how to achieve 2017's go-to hairstyle.
Step #1: Prep your hair
Prep your hair for extensions by braiding cornrows all around your head, but leaving a layer of hair at the top of your head and around the frame of your face. Braiding cornrows around your head is a strategy that will help ensure no short layers are peeking through at the final look. This also helps great a sturdy base for the clips to secure on to. The hair left at the top of your head and around the frame of your face will be the finishing touches to blending in the entire set together to look more natural.
Step #2: Clip in your hair extensions
Clip in your hair extensions. In this tutorial, Roger is using 220g Off Black Luxy Hair extensions which blend in to our beautiful model's hair perfectly. You can clip in your extensions as you typically would, starting with the larger wefts at the bottom of your head, and making your way up layer by layer.
Here's a tutorial on how to clip in Luxy Hair extensions - you basically apply the same technique, but instead of clipping them directly in to your hair, you are clipping them in to the cornrows you've created.
Step #3: Straighten your hair
Blend the top layers of your hair (that was clipped aside) as well as the face-framing pieces into the extensions with a straightener. This helps ensure a seamless blend with your extensions and pulls the entire look together.
When straightening your hair and your extensions, always remember to use a heat protectant spray first prior to applying heat. On your extensions specifically, we also recommend to use a low heat setting of 120C/250F, to ensure the hair does not get damaged. While our own hair may be able to handle a high heat setting, extensions are not getting revitalized at the scalp and it's therefore best to be more gentle on your set.
As an optional finishing touch, you can drop a few dollops of smoothing serum into your palm and run your hands through your hair to ensure any fly-aways are maintained to help create that sleek look.
